Calling this Home (single)

about

A new song from early in the pandemic, I've only written a few in these 6 months but they tend to be pretty lonely. Producing it alone doesn't help that, does it?

lyrics

I got your number dialed I just can't say hello
I listen to your voice like it know where I should go
I hold the phone up to my ear
and I tell your machine I wish you were here
beside me, beneath these stars
are these the same stars out where you are?
you don't have to tell me if you don't know
you don't have to call back, I'm sure you'll show

It's like I'm renting a room to a lousy tenant
like my eardrums are tethered to a chain-link fence
I hold my breath when people walk by
I hold the phone close when it turns to night
I'd open the window if it would let you in
but the night stays quiet in my little dead end
so I shut the doors tight and sleep in my coat
feels like I'm holding you close, calling this home

I'll make it a home I'll make it all right
baby look at me turn on the lights
hold me close tell me you're true
let me know you wanna do this too
